Triangle of Youth Vs. Pyramid of Aging
What Is Anti-aging Dentistry?
Anti-aging dentistry is more than cosmetic dentistry. Cosmetic dentistry is primarily focused on improving the appearance of your smile, not your entire face. Anti-aging dentistry refers to techniques and treatments designed to promote a beautiful, youthful appearance while improving the shape of the face by optimizing the jaw joints; it changes the way your teeth support your facial structures and give you a younger-looking smile. Anti-aging dentistry uses cosmetic dentistry but with an added purpose, making you look younger from forehead to chin.

9 Common Ways Aging Affects Oral Health!
Your teeth are the foundation for your face. When that foundation begins to crumble, it creates a ripple effect on the rest of your face: lips sagging, fine lines appearing, a sunk-in look, etc.
Shifting Facial Structure
The aging process often causes all our bones to get weaker and our collagen production to be reduced or stopped. When this phenomenon happens in our mouth, our dental arches get narrow, jawbone lose some of its fullness, and teeth shift inward or turn. In turn, this leads to your face appearing slimmer and sunken.
Hollow Look
Collagens strengthen teeth & gum; it helps to bind our teeth together and keep them firmly placed in the gum. As our collagen production is reduced due to aging, our gum loses its elasticity and starts receding. The receding gum develops unusual dark “holes or spaces” at the corners of your teeth. Receding gum often result in tooth sensitivity and can lead to decay of root and ultimately tooth loss. Missing a tooth causes the remaining tooth to shift and affects a shift in facial structure.
Wear & Tear
Teeth are strong. Molars can press down with up to 200 pounds of force per square inch. With this kind of power in our jaw, the enamel on our teeth can wear away, teeth shorten from years of grinding, and teeth can become damaged over the years and loses their functionality; it also makes the face look caved in on profile, the lips appear thin and sucked in.
Dry Mouth
Saliva is essential to keeping your mouth healthy, and a dry mouth can be a major threat to a healthy mouth. As people age, the chance of experiencing dry mouth gets higher due to saliva gland production being less effective and more likely taking more medications. A dry mouth can cause bad breath, tooth decay, cavity formation, and gum disease.
Periodontal Disease
Periodontal disease is a condition caused by an accumulation of plaque and bacteria in between teeth and gum; it is often preceded by gingivitis. Periodontal disease can cause teeth shifting, wobbly teeth, jawbone deterioration, reduced gum, and teeth loss which make people look older than their real age.
Gum Recession
How you ever heard the expression that an older person is said to be “long in the tooth? As we age, our gum could recess more so our teeth appear longer and misshapen.
Yellow Teeth
yellow, stained, and discolored teeth are a natural consequence of age or lifestyle choices, but they can make you look older than your actual age. A simple way to improve your smile is to whiten your teeth to get a younger, healthier, and more beautiful smile.
Darken Restoration
As our existing restorations such as amalgam fillings, bonding, and crowns age with our age, they appear dark and discolored which makes our faces look older.
Missing Teeth
When permanent teeth are missing, the teeth root are absent which causes the jaw to naturally ascend. Thus, the jawbone isn’t able to support the structure of the face. As the result, the facial structure not only will eventually starts collapsing, but also create nasolabial folds (wrinkles stretching from mouth to cheeks).
