What Is LANAP® Periodontal Surgery?
LANAP® (Laser-assisted new attachment procedure) is a remarkable and non-invasive laser procedure that is used as a painless, safe, and highly effective alternative to conventional gum disease surgery. LANAP=LAR is the only scientifically proven methodology that results in true periodontal regeneration, new bone growth, and gum tissue attachment. It is accomplished with PerioLase® MVP-7 digital pulsed Nd: YAG dental laser for the treatment of Periodontitis “Gum Disease”. When Is LANAP Laser Gum Surgery Necessary?
LANAP® laser gum surgery is necessary because it treats gum disease and prevents periodontitis. Gum disease occurs when the accumulation of plaque and tartar leads to bacterial infections on the gum tissue as well as the expansion of periodontal pockets between gums and teeth which ultimately leads to gum recession and loosening of teeth. What Happens After the LANAP® Procedure?
Your gums will be sore for a few days after the LANAP® surgery. Dr. Horiyat may recommend some medications to minimize discomfort after the LANAP® procedure. Unlike traditional gum surgery, the LANAP® procedure is minimally invasive and does not require cutting or suturing of gum tissue, thus, the recovery will be faster. During the first 24-hour period after laser gum surgery, Dr. Horiyat may recommend staying on a liquid diet. For the following three to seven days after treatment, she only recommends a soft diet consisting of nutrient-dense foods. Dr. Horiyat always recommends staying away from form hot (temperature), spicy, crunchy, and chewy foods.
