Holistic Wisdom Teeth Extractions with Site Preservation

Impacted or Erupted Extractions with No Dry Socket & No Jawbone Cavitation

Wisdom teeth also referred to as the “third molars”, are the final set of molars that typically emerge between the ages of 17 and 25. Wisdom teeth can be valuable to the mouth if they are healthy and properly aligned, but most often they are misaligned and more prone to problems such as erosion cavity, infection, crowding, and cysts during their eruption (breaking through the gum tissue), which usually warrant wisdom teeth extractions.

When Do You Need Wisdom Tooth Removal?

Wisdom Teeth are easier to remove when the patient is younger since their roots are not completely formed, the surrounding bone is softer, and there is less chance of damaging nearby nerves or other structures. Most Often, the extraction of wisdom teeth at a later age becomes more complicated as the roots have fully developed, and the jawbone is denser. Wisdom Teeth are typically removed during mid to late teenage years.

Impacted wisdom teeth are a common issue and nothing to worry about. In fact, the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons finds that nine out of every ten patients have at least one impacted wisdom tooth. It may feel fine now, but it can cause issues later. It is best to consult with the top holistic dentist and oral surgeon as early as possible. As wisdom teeth grow and develop, the risks to oral health and general wellness grow.

Potential Dangers of Wisdom Teeth

Misaligned wisdom teeth can erupt sideways, only partially, or become impacted (trapped), leading to crowding or damaging of adjacent teeth, the jawbone, or nerves. A partially erupted wisdom tooth allows the bacteria to enter and grow around the tooth, leading to the following conditions such as:

Research has shown that as soon as periodontal disease is found in the 3rd molars areas, the gum disease continues to be persistent and progressive, but it may improve after the extraction of the wisdom teeth.

A fluid-filled cyst or tumor may form around the untreated wisdom tooth. As the cysts grow, it may lead to far more critical issues as it hollows out the jaw and damages the surrounding nerves, teeth, and other vital structures.

Per the meridian chart, our third molars (wisdom teeth) are in general connected to our heart, liver, small intestine, and large intestine, if they get infected, the infection can spread out these organs and ultimately cause medical conditions.

4 Main Post-surgery Complications after Traditional Extractions

Holistic wisdom teeth extractions utilize stem cell recovery (PRGF) and ozone/oxygen therapy to eliminate several post-opts complications such as:

Reduce Pain & Inflammation after Extractions

At Aria Dental, we offer Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) or Plasma Rich Growth Factors (PRGF) treatment, which is an advanced therapy from your own blood that speeds healing process of soft and hard tissue and reduce pain & inflammation after extractions.

Two Main Conditions Can Happen after Extractions:

What Is Dry Socket (Alveolar Osteitis)?

Each year millions of Americans get their wisdom teeth extracted with minimal swelling, pain, and discomfort; however, 2-5% of tooth extraction patients experience dry sockets, which is the result of dislodging of the vital blood clots that form in the empty tooth socket after tooth extraction. This condition leaves the nerves and bones exposed and prone to infection, which could lead to symptoms like bad breath, unpleasant taste in the mouth, and intense pain in the mouth, face, and earache. If you develop a dry socket, immediately call Aria Dental of Mission Viejo to be seen by our dental professional.

Risk Factors of Dry Socket

Some Risk Factors that increase the chance of developing a dry socket:

Preventing Dry Socket

Some recommendations to prevent developing dry socket are to:

What Is Cavitation (Jawbone Infection)?

Known as jawbone osteonecrosis, silent jawbone infection (cavitation) is a chronic ischemic jawbone disease (CIBD). Cavitation is really a colloquial term for “ischemic bone disease” or “sites of alternate healing” which means either an active infection or abnormal tissue growth in the bone of the maxilla (upper jaw) or mandible (lower jaw). Dental cavitation is potentially dangerous because it creates a place for bacteria to collect and deteriorate the surrounding bone structure.

What Is Harmful Cavitation That Can Happen after Conventional Extraction?

Reasons for Cavitation after Extractions

Unfamiliar to most patients, jawbone infection (Cavitation) is the root cause of chronic pain & illness that other doctors just can’t seem to figure out.

Each tooth is attached to the jaw by a bit of tissue called “Periodontal Ligaments”. When the surrounding periodontal membranes or ligament is left behind during an extraction including wisdom tooth extraction, it could cause incomplete healing. Experts speculate that this incomplete healing occurs because the bone cells on the extraction site sense the presence of the periodontal membrane and give the biological messages to the surrounding jawbone that the tooth is still there, and that no new bone growth is needed.

Toxins may come into play if a tooth (wisdom tooth included) is extracted due to dental disease. If the socket isn’t thoroughly disinfected and the bacteria is not properly neutralized or adequately flushed out after an oral surgery or extraction, the lingering bacteria and toxins may be trapped in the jaw and incubate for years, potentially releasing toxic infection residue into the blood and ultimately to the rest of the body. At Aria Dental, we offer Ozone/Oxygen therapy to disinfect the socket during dental extraction and promote blood circulation for healing.

Do You Need a CT-Scan for Wisdom Teeth Extractions?

For most patients, panoramic X-rays could be adequate for diagnosis. At Aria Dental, we have implemented hi-tech and modern 3D Cone Beam CT scan and Panoramic X-ray. Our oral surgeon may recommend a CT scan when:

A 3D Cone Beam CT-Scan provides more detailed information about the position of wisdom teeth and their proximity to nerves and sinuses. The images from CT scans are helpful for patients who have severe or deeply impacted teeth and whose oral surgeon is concerned about proximity to nerves, sinuses, and cysts. It helps your oral surgeon to see all the nerves and arteries in the jaw to ensure they are not harmed during wisdom teeth surgery. In addition, it is helpful to know where the impacted teeth are in the jaw to avoid making surgical incisions on the wrong side of the jaw (tongue side vs. cheek side).
