Some people think that the benefits of straight teeth are purely about making a person’s smile look better. According to the American Dental Association (ADA), having straighter teeth can improve your mouth, body, and mind. Dr. Horiyat says, “Your mouth is connected to the rest of your body, thus, straight teeth can prevent many oral conditions, which ultimately prevent many medical conditions.”

Having straight teeth benefits patients beyond just looking beautiful. Straight teeth renew the oral function for eating and speaking as well as boosting confidence. The boost in your self-esteem can have lasting effects not only on your emotional health but also on overall outlook.

What Orthodontics Can Treat?

When you come in, our expert orthodontist will analyze your teeth, jaw, bite, and overall smile, and recommend the best course of treatment depending on the issues you have. Some common ones are:

Health Benefits of Straight Teeth

Most diseases such as strokes, diabetes, heart disease, and most auto-immune disease originate from digestive systems which start in the mouth. When teeth are crooked or spaced, your gum is more susceptible to collecting harmful microorganisms such as bacteria, which will lead to gum disease or periodontal disease as well as traveling through the vascular system and acupuncture meridian to other parts of your body.

Crowded teeth often cause one or more teeth to protrude out, which will ultimately rub against the teeth in the opposite arch. This unnatural grinding of upper and lower teeth will lead to an inefficient chewing function, excessive wear and tear of your teeth, and introduce multiple issues from TMJ to sinus problems.

Crowded, protruding upper teeth are more targets for undesirable contacts and are more likely to be broken or fractured in the event of an accident during sport, falls, or accidental head butt.

Misaligned teeth place excessive stress on the surrounding gum and the bone that support the teeth, which will cause malocclusion (bite disorder) and jaw misalignment and ultimately lead to chronic headaches, facial pain, and neck pain.

Do you have crooked and crowded teeth, or often find yourself checking the mirror for unsightly food caught in your teeth?  The inability to easily remove all tiny food particles among crooked and crowded teeth will cause the plaque to build ups, which will eventually cause teeth decay.

Orthodontic treatment can help boost your self-confidence, giving you a better quality of life and the freedom to smile without holding back.

How Orthodontics Work?

Our orthodontists are specially trained to correct misaligned teeth and bites using braces, Invisalign®, and other methods. Depending on your situation, your orthodontist may recommend appliances made of ceramic, metal, or clear BPA-free plastic.
Bonded to the teeth or removable, they will place a constant, gentle force in a precise direction to move your teeth into the proper place.

Enjoy an Amazing Smile Today!

It’s a wonderful time to wear braces — orthodontics has advanced to the point where you don’t need to wear bulky, ugly metal bands around your teeth anymore. You’ll be able to choose whether you want metal or clear brackets as well as the color of your appliance. Wires are barely noticeable, and everything is designed to move your teeth comfortably and faster than ever.

Orthodontics for Children

A Lifetime of Great Oral Health Begins with A Holistic Dentist in Mission Viejo, CA

What Age to Start braces for Your Child?

While there is no exact age for children to begin orthodontic treatment, the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends visiting the orthodontist around the age of Seven (7).

By this age, most children have a mix of baby teeth and adult teeth, making it easier for the orthodontist to diagnose and correct tooth and jaw problems sooner to prevent jaw surgery later on in life.

Braces for kids are an excellent option for guiding the growth and development of their smiles and airway. Since orthodontists are able to predict structural changes that may occur as your child gets older, addressing such structural changes with braces can save your child’s smile and also prevent any additional dental issues or airway issues.

Things to Look for That May Mean Your Child Needs to See an Orthodontics:

For parents, it’s not always easy to know if your child may need orthodontic treatment. Please contact our practice to schedule an appointment for an orthodontic evaluation. Today’s early treatment will give your child a healthy and beautiful smile for the future.

what is Early age orthodontic?

Early orthodontic treatment is designed to prevent minor orthodontic treatment issues from becoming major ones.

Early age orthodontics is the process of providing children with early treatment for orthodontic conditions such as narrow jaw. dental crowding, misaligned bites, jaw discrepancies’, and protruding teeth. This type of treatment is usually done using done using two phases: PHASE I and PHASE II.

Early treatment allows your orthodontist to:

phase 1 orthodontic

Phase 1 or early/ interceptive orthodontic treatment  generally begins between ages of 7 to 10 when your child’s still has some of their baby teeth and before all of their permanent teeth have erupted. Phase 1 is defined as an organized approach to the early diagnosis, prevention, interception, and correction of skeletal and dental irregularities related to healthy, growing patients. Phase 1 treatments focuses on guiding the growth and development of children’s jaw and airway, improving the overall facial balance, and alignment of teeth. This proactive approach helps address orthodontic issues in their early stages, setting the foundations for a healthier and more stable smile as children continue to grow. It usually consists of braces or a simple orthodontic appliance.

Phase 1 orthodontic treatment is not necessary for all children. It’s typically recommended in case where a child has has specific jaw development or orthodontic issues that, if left untreated, could lead to more severe problems as they grow. Our certified orthodontic evaluate each child individually to recommend the more appropriate time to begin phase 1 orthodontic treatment.

phase 2 Orthodontic

Phase II braces usually happen few years after phase I, about ages 11 or 12. The time of phase II treatment can vary depending on the severity of misalignment, or the presence of any structural issues. If any complex issue exist such as jaw development or impacted teeth, then phase II may need to begin at an earlier age

Phase II orthodontic treatment is individualized based on the patient’s diagnosis and may include any number of dental tools such as braces, spacers, expanders, and aligners.

Phase II treatment is used to correct crooked teeth, an overbite, underbite, crossbite, impacted tooth, or other dental issues.

Orthodontics for Adults

An Attractive Smile Is a Magnificent Asset of Well-Being!

Orthodontic treatment is no longer just for teens. The American Association of Orthodontists states that one in five orthodontic patients is over the age of 21. Common Reasons for Orthodontics Treatments

Adults’ Vs. Teens' Orthodontics

The main difference to remember when treating adults or children and teens is that in younger patients the jawbones are still developing. For adults, these bones have stopped growing, which may mean the possibility of orthognathic surgery to align the jawbones. Other differences include:

Orthodontics

Adults are more likely than children to experience gum recession or even bone loss due to gingivitis or advanced periodontal disease.

Adults are more likely than children to experience gum recession or even bone loss due to gingivitis or advanced periodontal disease.

Over time teeth can become worn down and shift into different positions that can only be corrected with orthodontic care. Missing teeth can cause other teeth to shift and tilt, creating a bad bite and increasing the possibility of gum disease.

Many adults received some orthodontic treatment as a child or teen, but never completed their treatments. As an adult, they choose to complete their orthodontic treatment to achieve the healthy, beautiful smile they always wanted.
