Prevention Is the Key
The pre-teen and teenager years are vital times for oral health. Permanent teeth are growing in, and a permanent smile is starting to take shape. Dentistry for kids and teens can fix teeth alignment issues, cavities, and other dental problems more easily now than later, and prevent them from happening.
The problematic dental habits of teenage will usually carry over into adulthood, so getting your teens off on the right foot can help ensure the health of their gums and teeth for years to come.

Children’s Teeth Grinding (Bruxism)
Children’s Teeth Grinding (Bruxism)
Does your child grind his or her teeth while sleeping? It is not unusual. Experts say teeth grinding or bruxism is common, particularly in toddlers and preschoolers. Most kick the habit by age of 6 or 7 when their permanent molars erupt; other continue to grind through their teen years.
What is the cause of bruxism in children? Pediatricians and pediatric dentists do not have any cure for bruxism, but they agree that bruxism usually stems from an ear infection, teething, or improper alignment of their teeth.
Are Teeth Grinding Harmful?
Most Pediatric dentists agree that grinding is not usually a problem for toddlers because their bites are flexible and will most likely change as they grow. However, it becomes more of a problem with older children since it interferes with the normal growth and alignment of their permanent teeth. Nighttime clenching can wear down or chip teeth, make them sensitive to temperature, significantly affect your child’s healthy bite, or lead to. TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder).
As a preventive measure, you should consider getting a custom-made night guard from your pediatric dentist.
Sleep Symptoms for Children
Does your child snore? Does your child show other signs of disturbed sleep: long pauses in breathing, much tossing and turning in the bed, chronic mouth breathing during sleep, and night sweats?
Sleep issues are common in children & teens, but hard to detect. According to studies by the National Institutes of health, there is a direct link between healthy sleep and improved behavior, health, learning, and overall happiness. Sleep disorders in children are conditions that prevent them from getting a full night’s rest on a regular basis. There are many children who, at some time(s), experience problems sleeping. The National Institutes of Health identified more than 100 disorders of sleeping and waking. Many of these issues are normal and may not be classified as a sleep disorder but proper diagnosis is required because an undiagnosed condition of obstructive sleep apnea can not only increase in severity as the child ages, but it can also become life-threatening.
When children suffer from poor sleep, it can hamper their brain development, cause health problems, and trigger behavior issues. The professional doctors analyze your child’s sleep, detects problems, and provide recommendations to turn things around. Our mission is to help teens sleep better so they can develop properly and live better lives.
Some of the most common sleep disorders and problems are:
- Childhood Insomnia
- Sleep Apnea in Children
- Nightmares and Night Terrors
- Sleep Walking
- Bedwetting.
