A Lifetime of Great Oral Health Begins with a Holistic Dentist

From Teeth Cleaning to Airway Correction, Sleep Apnea & Braces – Aria Dental is Your All-In-one Holistic Dental office.

Choosing between traditional and holistic/biological dentistry is one of the most important decisions a parent makes. Traditional dentists generally focus on treating the condition but do not consider the toxicity of the materials and conventional techniques they use. Holistic dentists focus on identifying the root cause of disease and provide safe and non-toxic materials and non-invasive, conservative techniques that last.
As a holistic dental practice for children, our philosophy is based on preventive dentistry, and we follow a whole-body strategy for dental health and development through natural, non-toxic, and minimally intrusive care. We believe when disease and damaging conditions are avoided in a child, or at least at their earliest stages of development, we can keep your child’s teeth and mouth in their naturally healthy and beautiful state.

Balance & Harmony between Oral & Overall Health of Our Children

In the 21st century and dynamic dental practice, we focus on the oral-systemic connection and the importance of the mouth and the rest of the child’s overall health being in balance and harmony. We understand that any oral condition such as decay, gum issues, tooth grinding, snoring, sleep apnea, or even crowding of teeth in children as they grow is in connection to what is going on in that child…physically, mentally, and emotionally. Thus, we use gentle and natural therapies to prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases of oral problems.

Our wellness-integrated dental care helps your children not only replace fear with Love & Excitement for Dentistry but also develop awareness about the importance of maintaining and sustaining good habits for their teeth and general well-being.

when to visit a holistic dentist

Ideally, on their first birthday.  We prefer your children’s health and development to begin when you first notice their baby teeth forming.

The pre-teen and teenage years are vital times for oral health. Permanent teeth are growing in, and a permanent smile is starting to take shape. Dentistry for kids and teens can fix teeth alignment issues, cavities, and other dental problems more easily now than later, and prevent them from happening.

The problematic dental habits of teenagers will usually carry over into adulthood, so getting your teens off on the right foot can help ensure the health of their gums and teeth for years to come.

Holistic treatments for your child's Wellness

No Fluoride

To optimize the biome of the mouth, avoid your child's exposure to toxic fluoride & allow enamel development (dental/enamel fluorosis), we are a fluoride-free office and utilize various applications of natural ozone.

No BPA

To avoid posing BPA risks to our children, including developmental issues in the brain and reproductive systems, hormone disruptions, behavioral problems, and endocrine disorders, we primarily use BPA-free fillings, sealants, and restorations.

No Antibiotic

To prevent chemicals and pharmaceutical drug-side effects and to distinguish between healthy & unhealthy microbes, our holistic dentist avoids antibiotics and recommends natural herbal antimicrobials and ozone therapy.

No Toxic Metal

To avoid allergic reactions and medical conditions caused by toxic heavy mercury metal and metal alloys we use only biocompatible and metal-free ceramic materials. We are not only metal-free but also SMART-certified to safely remove it.

No Root Canals

To avoid cavitation (jawbone infection), and medical systemic or autoimmune conditions later on in life for your child, our holistic and biological dentist offers preventive and conservative care to avoid root canals.

Holistic pediatric dentists can lay down the foundations of good oral care for your little one and give you helpful tips on:

Fluoride vs. Ozone Therapy

At traditional dental offices, fluoride treatment is considered an effective treatment for plaque building up and preventing cavities; however, there is a controversy that fluoride treatments are harmful and toxic substances.

At Aria Dental – a 100% holistic and biological dental office – we avoid fluoride to prevent any toxicity to our children’s oral and overall health.  To provide the safest materials and technique, we apply the revolutionary technique of ozone/oxygen therapy instead of fluoride.

Smile That Lasts a Lifetime

At Aria Dental, you find every holistic and biological treatments that your child needs to create and maintain a great smile and healthy life.

We avoid using metal in the mouth due to its galvanizing properties and possible toxicity. We also offer the option of filling materials that are made from ceramic particulate, not the plastic typically found in composite fillings that can contain BPA, Bis GMA, and BPA precursors.

Children’s teeth have deep grooves that attract decay. Sealants offer an affordable and highly effective way to seal off these grooves from food and bacteria getting stuck; they also strengthen your child’s teeth. Sealants can last for years, and we’ll monitor them during check-ups. You have an option of choosing sealants that are made from ceramic particles that truly have no BPA precursors.

We look at the genetic predisposition of your child’s teeth to measure if your child’s genetics put them at a higher risk. We measure the PH of the saliva because cavities cannot occur in an alkaline environment. if your child’s PH is acidic, we can educate them on ways to raise their PH. We focus on the role of the microbiome to protect against “harmful bacteria” and oral disease and educate on how to nurture your microbiome.

Dr. Maryam Horiyat, licensed by the American Academy of Ozone therapy (AAOt), can apply Ozone to infuse oxygen released from unstable ozone in your child’s teeth. This therapy is a much more “minimally invasive” treatment that can help to arrest and kill bad bacteria, neutralize the acidic environment around the tooth, and ultimately help to avoid the complications of dental cavities such as losing a natural tooth and root canal.

An excellent and safe choice for children two years old or older. Our in-house sedation services use Nitrous Oxide or Laughing Gas to keep younger patients calm throughout their procedure — no stress, no pain, no fuss!

Painless, gentle, and caring, every child is in good hands with some of Mission Viejo’s most respected dentists.

Does your child’s smile need correction? Our orthodontists will help you explore the right treatment for your child or teen. Getting the perfect smile has never been this fun or easy!

  1. To Guide the growth of your child’s jaw. straight permanent teeth in the future by creating more space for crowded teeth.
  2. To regulate the width of both upper and lower arches.
  3. To correct thumb sucking and help improve minor speech problems.

Sleep apnea refers to a pause in breathing during sleep due to a blocked airway. These continuous sleep interruptions lower your child’s oxygen to an unhealthy level with negative health impacts.

Aria Dental can address and permanently correct the underlying cause of sleep apnea so children can live healthier without sleep devices by offering the Vivos Method.

Vivos therapy is an innovative and non-surgical approach to the correction of the malformation in the upper airways that can lead to sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) in children. it permanently improves the structure of the airways, allowing the child to breathe more easily.

Breathing from an underdeveloped airway could be an underlying and root cause of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) in children which can be one of the reasons for children having learning difficulties, hyperactivity, anxiety, restlessness, inability to pay attention, and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and bed-wetting. The Vivos therapy is designed to gently move the teeth and jaw into a more natural and healthy position which helps to open up the airway and reduce the risk of SDB.

comprehensive examination & Checkups

The comprehensive examination is a process in which Dr. Horiyat gathers information about your child’s teeth, growth, and development to provide a throughout diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment plan. This examination may include some radiography, intraoral camera, and digital scanning.

tooth decay & Cavity

metal-free & BPA-FREE with ozone

Tooth decay is the breakdown or destruction of tooth enamel, the hard surface of a tooth which is caused by bacteria. Tooth decay can happen in both the primary (baby) teeth of young children and permanent teeth. Parents are often surprised to learn that tooth decay can begin as a baby’s teeth come in, usually by age six months. Decay in baby teeth can cause pain and infection can spread. if decay is not treated, it can destroy the baby teeth and can have affect on a child’s general health.

Many children struggle with tooth decay, but it’s fairly easy to prevent this. As early as possible, build proper brushing and flossing habits, and take them for regular dental cleanings and check-ups every six months.

what cause tooth decay in children?

Healthy Teeth and Healthy Future!

Tooth decay is caused by bacteria but many other things can contribute to its development. A child may develop tooth decay if their teeth are not properly cleaned. Bacteria that typically live in the mouth change the food on the teeth, making them acidic. The combination of food, acid, bacteria, and saliva in the mouth creates plaques. Over some time, the acid that forms within the child’s mouth eats away at their tooth enamel, causing cavities to form.

Some of the reasons for tooth decays are:

signs & Symptoms of early stage tooth decay

Tooth decay or caries can begin in children as you as six months to one year of age. So it is important to know how to identify tooth decay at its early stage. The signs and symptoms of tooth decay include:

treatments for tooth decay

Painless with Sedation Options & Digital Anesthetic

Dr. Horiyat can certainly treat your child’s tooth decay, but treatment depends on your child’s tooth decay symptoms, general health, age, and severity of the tooth decay. Most of the time, treatment involves removing the decayed portion of the tooth and replacing it with a filling, also known as restorations. This treatment can be painless by utilizing our digital and computerized anesthetic injection system that has no syringes and no collateral numbness.

Dr. Horiyat, a holistic and integrative dentist, only uses non-toxic, safe, and natural materials that are not only metal-free but also biocompatible to provide both aesthetically beautiful and healthy body restoration.

sleep apnea, snoring & grinding

with innovative vivos method

Does your child snore? Does your child show other signs of disturbed sleep: long pauses in breathing, much tossing and turning in the bed, chronic mouth breathing during sleep, and night sweats?

Sleep issues are common in children & teens, but hard to detect. According to studies by the National Institutes of health, there is a direct link between healthy sleep and improved behavior, health, learning, and overall happiness.  Sleep disorders in children are conditions that prevent them from getting a full night’s rest on a regular basis. There are many children who, at some time(s), experience problems sleeping. The National Institutes of Health identified more than 100 disorders of sleeping and waking. Many of these issues are normal and may not be classified as a sleep disorder but proper diagnosis is required because an undiagnosed condition of obstructive sleep apnea can not only increase in severity as the child ages, but it can also become life-threatening.

When children suffer from poor sleep, it can hamper their brain development, cause health problems, and trigger behavior issues. The professional doctors analyze your child’s sleep, detects problems, and provide recommendations to turn things around. Our mission is to help teens sleep better so they can develop properly and live better lives.

Children’s Teeth Grinding (Bruxism)

Children’s Teeth Grinding (Bruxism)

Does your child grind his or her teeth while sleeping? It is not unusual. Experts say teeth grinding or bruxism is common, particularly in toddlers and preschoolers. Most kick the habit by the age of 6 or 7 when their permanent molars erupt; others continue to grind through their teen years.

What is the cause of bruxism in children? Pediatricians and pediatric dentists do not have any cure for bruxism, but they agree that bruxism usually stems from sleep apnea, an ear infection, teething, or improper alignment of their teeth.

Are Teeth Grinding Harmful?

Most Pediatric dentists agree that grinding is not usually a problem for toddlers because their bites are flexible and will most likely change as they grow. However, it becomes more of a problem with older children since it interferes with the normal growth and alignment of their permanent teeth. Nighttime clenching can wear down or chip teeth, make them sensitive to temperature, significantly affect your child’s healthy bite, or lead to. TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder).

As a preventive measure, you should consider getting a custom-made night guard from your pediatric dentist.

early intervention guided growth & Development

Your child’s smile is one of the most precious things in the world, so visiting a holistic dentist for your children at an early age lays the foundation for a healthy and strong smile throughout their lifetime. The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that a child should see a board-certified orthodontist by the time they are about 7 years old because by this age, most of the baby’s teeth should have erupted.

The goal of early orthodontics is to intervene in the development of children’s teeth, jaws, face, and airway while they are still growing to possibly avoid the need for more extensive and invasive treatment, including jaw surgery later in their lives or extraction orthodontics.

Guided growth orthodontics, also known as orthopedic orthodontic, is a method of treating crooked teeth and jaws by correcting dysfunctional growth patterns through the use of functional appliances, The early-age orthodontic is usually done using two phases: Phase I and Phase II, not every child needs phase I treatment, but every child needs to visit a certified orthodontist to be evaluated. Learn More

A Teen’s Lifestyle Affects Teeth Health

Healthy Habit... Healthy Future!

According to Active Living Research, as children become tweens and teens, they also tend to become much more sedentary. Snacks and sodas usually go together with watching digital screens and playing video games, which means kids’ teeth are almost constantly subjected to sticky food and liquids – the perfect conditions for tooth decay.

Are your teenagers’ poor oral health habits finally catching up with them? It’s not always easy to get teenagers to keep up with proper oral care. At Aria Dental, we’re here to help your teens. As being holistic & holistic dental office, we focus on natural, preventive, and minimally invasive dentistry, thus, we have developed a specific approach to treat, instill proper and healthy oral hygiene habits, and make a healthy future for our teenage patients.

Baby Tooth in Kids ... Wisdom Teeth in Teens

Most parents expect their children’s baby teeth to naturally without intervention start falling out around the age of 5, leading the way to the growth of permanent adult teeth. While most children lose their teeth naturally without intervention, there are some occasions when an extraction must be performed.

holistic Wisdom Teeth removal

Removal of Periodontal Ligament, Using PRF as Bone Graft, and Ozone Therapy

Third molars, also called wisdom teeth, are the last set of permanent teeth to erupt in a person’s mouth. A narrow mouth leads to less space for the third molar to erupt or emerge above the gumline. When a wisdom tooth does not erupt, it is called impaction, which means they are growing at an angle, lying flat, or sitting up straight without emerging. thus, it needs to be removed surgically because it may cause infection, tooth decay, cysts, or interfere with orthodontic treatment.

Dr. Horiyat and her team of specialists will do everything such as removing ligaments during extraction, using natural ozone treatment and advanced biological science of growth stimulating materials from your own blood, known as Leucocyte Platelet Rich Fibrin (L-PRF) to perform wisdom teeth extraction painlessly and with comfort. L-PRF not only minimizes pain, swelling, or downside for recovery time but also reduces the risk of painful dry sockets and cavitation (jawbone infection) that could happen after traditional surgery.

Unlike conventional wisdom teeth extraction, our holistic dentist will follow holistic and biological protocols during wisdom teeth extraction.

Teeth Whitening for Teenagers

Are teeth whitening safe for teens? On occasion, some parents or teenagers ask us at what age is it, ok teens, to whiten their teeth. Teeth whitening before the permanent teeth have fully developed puts teens at risk of slight but reparable nerve damage caused by the tooth bleaching gel.

In addition, the over-counter gel can damage teenagers’ gum. Thus, you need to consult with Dr. Horiyat to evaluate the stage of your teeth development and if you are qualified to do teeth whitening, you receive professional and customized teeth whitening at Aria Dental without any gum or nerve damage. metal-free & biomimetic techniques

Dr. Horiyat is a premier holistic and biological dentist who practices conservative dentistry to provide restorative care to meet the specific needs of children while helping them to remain calm and comfortable.  Dr. Horiyat not only offers ozone therapy but also laser dentistry.

Tooth-Colored & Metal-free Fillings

Ceramic particle fillings with no BPA precursors

Tooth-colored white fillings, composite resin, or ceramic fillings are all names for high-strength, natural-looking fillings that can be placed instead of traditional mercury amalgam or gold fillings.

Traditional mercury amalgam fillings are unattractive and can pose other risks. White fillings blend in with your teeth and are a safer, more durable, and alternative to ordinary metal fillings. If you have cavities, you need to get white or tooth-colored fillings to get an attractive and healthy smile.  Learn More

Sealants

Sometimes brushing is not enough, especially when it comes to those hard-to-reach spots in your mouth. It is difficult for your toothbrush to get in between the small cracks and grooves on your teeth. If left alone, those tiny areas can develop tooth decay. Sealants give your teeth extra protection against decay and help prevent cavities.
Dental sealants are plastic resins that bond and harden in the deep grooves on your tooth’s surface. When a tooth is sealed, the tiny grooves become smooth and are less likely to harbor plaque.
Sealants are typically applied to children’s teeth as a preventive measure against tooth decay after the permanent teeth have erupted. However, adults can also receive sealants on healthy teeth. It is more common to seal “permanent” teeth rather than “baby” teeth, but every patient has unique needs, and your dentist will recommend sealants on a case-by-case basis.

Cosmetic Bonding

Bonding is a conservative way to repair slightly chipped, discolored, or crooked teeth. During dental bonding, a white filling is placed onto your tooth to improve its appearance. The filling bonds with your tooth, and because it comes in a variety of tooth-colored shades, it closely matches the appearance of your natural teeth.

Tooth bonding can also be used for tooth fillings instead of silver amalgam. Many patients prefer bonded fillings because the white color is much less noticeable than silver. Bonded fillings can be used on front or back teeth, depending on the location and extent of tooth decay.

Bonding is less expensive than other cosmetic treatments and can usually be completed in one visit to our office. However, bonding can stain and is easier to break than other cosmetic treatments, such as porcelain veneers. If it does break or chip, tell your doctor. The bonding can generally be easily patched or repaired in one visit. Learn More
