Ozone Therapy: A Minimally Invasive Technique for Simple or Surgical Oral Treatments
Modern dentistry is a marvel and leveraged throughout Aria Dental but with the case of ozone therapy, nature is used to provide the holistic & biological dentistry that makes a remarkable difference in oral and overall health.
As a certified holistic & biological dental office in Orange County, we proudly utilize different applications of ozone (O3) therapy during simple to surgical dental treatments to eliminate pharmaceutical drugs and their side effects.

What Is Ozone (O3) Therapy?
OPTIMIZE THE BIOME OF THE MOUTH
Some people have the misconception that Ozone is a pollutant and wonder if it is safe at all; they are often mistakenly referred to as a pollutant and think it is unhealthy. The opposite is true. Ozone (O3) is a naturally occurring and energized form of Oxygen; it is extremely safe, effective, and non-toxic to human cells but disintegrates the cell wall of pathogenic or “disease-causing” microorganisms which we call infection. These pathogenic microorganisms live together in what is called a biofilm. This biofilm supports a mixed type of infection made of bacteria, fungi, yeast, viruses, and parasites. The greatest holistic approach to ozone therapy is that kill “disease-causing” microorganisms without damaging any healthy tissues.

How Does Oxygen / Ozone Therapy Work?
Ozone has a chemical composition of O3; Oxygen has a chemical composition of O2. The extra oxygen in O3 makes ozone to be bioactive and a potent oxidant. The extra oxygen in O3 carries an electro-negative charge; all infection carries a positive charge, and healthy human cells are electro-neutral hence O3 is naturally attracted to the source of infection.
When ozone is introduced into a living system, it reacts with biomolecules (PUFA, antioxidants) present in the plasma; the reaction yields hydrogen peroxide (among other possible ROS) and liquid oxidation products (LOPS). The sudden rise in plasma concentration of hydrogen peroxide generates what is called a “transient oxidative burst”. The infective microorganisms have no natural defense against oxidative burst and as a result, they die.
The oxidative burst exhibits antimicrobial actions and induces a multitude of natural biochemical and physiologic reactions:
- It stimulates the cytokine system in the cell, which helps to clear out the infection.
- It activates mitochondria, which in turn supports the mechanism involved in clearing inflammation
It stimulates better blood flow, amplifies immune responses, and speeds up more rapid healing responses while decreasing the risk of post-surgical infections.

Ozone Therapy Used For...
Ozone therapy is used in dentistry in a variety of ways, including:
- Dental Cleaning & Preventive Care – We use ozone to harden tooth structure, reducing sensitivity in teeth that are week or worn down.
- Decay– Ozone gas will subsequently harden early cavities.
- Cosmetic Dentistry – Ozone makes teeth whitening faster and more effective
- Periodontal Disease – Ozone therapy kills the bacteria and removes waste products from the gum without damaging the healthy gum.
- Oral Surgery & Implant Placement – Ozone helps post-surgical recovery by combating bone infection, osteomyelitis, NICO lesions, and sterilizing the sockets.
- Root Canal Therapy – Ozone can clean infected root canals and smallest canals or tubules and sometimes reverse root canals.
- TMJ Pain – Ozone can help to manage the TMJ pain and heal the TMJ joints.
- Ear Insufflation – Ozone can promote healthier sinuses and upper airways
- Sensitivity – Ozone gas can harden the tooth structure, resulting in significantly less sensitivity

Through her knowledge and holistic approach, Dr. Horiyat was able to find the root cause of my dental issues. She worked with my schedule, made sure everything was completed with care and attention to detail before I left for college. I highly recommend Aria Dental.Posted on D NTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Wonderful, caring, professional dental practice which finally steers me in the right direction with my oral care. Staff have the utmost care for new and existing patients. A friend recommended me and I will be bringing my kids from here on in. Doctor Maryam Horiyat has her heart in the right place and I’m very grateful for that.Posted on Justin FTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. If you are seeking an alternative approach to dental care, then Aria Dental offers it. In fact, I believe they are the only one in the area that does. The support personnel are quite kind as well. All the procedures are quite pricey due to the way they position the services (and most insurance doesn't cover it). After experiencing Aria Dental for a couple of years, I can confidently say that they use the holistic approach purely as a marketing niche, which allows them to charge higher prices and to "stand out" in a rather crowded market. It is worth noting that the dentist does not perform a number of the procedures. For example, when my wife received an implant (a multistep process), they shipped in another doctor who was certified for the extraction, as well as the nurse anesthetist. Then, when the implant was placed, one of the assistants performed that process instead of Dr. Horiyat. That was surprising. The entire thing was essentially outsourced. As mentioned by some others, you'll get a feeling that they are in a hurry for their appointments. Perhaps overbooked, or to maximize revenue. Either way, you'll be ushered in and out so that they maintain their tight schedule. On a personal note, in 2023 I was told by another provider, SoCal Perio Implants, that I needed gum flap surgery. My wife was going to Aria Dental, so I figured I'd ask for a second opinion. Dr. Horiyat was adamant that gum flap surgery was not needed, and that I'd be fine with LANAP Laser Gum Therapy. I opted for the LANAP procedure, but it didn't work. My issue came back after two weeks. I went back to SoCal Perio Implants and saw Dr. Caplanis (a well known and respected Periodontist in California). Highly recommended by the way. I told him what I did, and he was annoyed with me, understandably. He said that he does LANAP procedures too, and if he thought it would have worked, then he would have recommended it (and that he would have actually preferred to do LANAP because it's an easier procedure for him, but for a similar payment... making it an easy payday, but he knew it wouldn't work). I laughed when he told me that. He's confident and direct, and it's warranted. Anyway, I did the gum flap procedure with him and all was resolved. Afterward, I was pretty upset at myself for wasting my money on the first procedure, but honestly, that one was on me. I should have trusted my gut and went with the expert. However, I was a little bit annoyed that my experience wasn't even acknowledged by Aria Dental. They had my money, so they were happy. So should you choose Aria Dental? If your priority is purely holistic dental care, and none of what I shared gives you pause, then maybe you'll be more inclined to overlook how things work there.Posted on Louis AlvarezTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I recently had an exceptional experience at Aria Dental when I went for a cleaning and revision of my Invisalign trays. I was very impressed with the professionalism, knowledge and clinical expertise of all the staff and especially with Dr Horiyat. She is a true perfectionist and did a great job in repairing my bad bite with Invisalign. I highly recommend Aria Dental to anyone looking for state-of-the-art dental care.Posted on Marla WelshTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent Doctor care with most caring staff ever!!! I’m so thankful to have the best care in dentistry!!!Posted on Naomi MachimuraTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Jon has been taking care of me in last few times and I am very happy they found him. In last few times, I had to ask him not to use the machine to clean because my teeth are very sensitive. Today he used the machine the first time with me, and I barely felt discomfort. I strongly hope they keep him for a long time.Posted on Serena ChangTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Aria Dental is the best dental office we have ever been to.
